The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a mission-driven Research and Technology Organisation active in the fields of informatics, materials and environment by developing competitive and market-oriented solutions for public and private stakeholders. The mission is to strengthen the economy through industrial innovation, and to deliver projects benefitting society and quality of life in general.
The Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) Department provides the interdisciplinary expertise to confront the major environmental challenges facing todays society. The department implements its smart green vision geared towards pursuing scientific excellence in understanding of complex environmental and biological systems and their interaction with the techno-sphere.
The Environmental Health (EH) research group, which belongs to the Environmental Sustainability and Circularity (SUSTAIN) unit within the ERIN department, focuses on the development of complex in vitro models for human safety and as replacement of animal experiments. Furthermore, studying the interaction of nanomaterials with biological systems, the regulatory toxicology and chemical safety assessment are the main activities of the EH team. In addition, the group has large experience in human and environmental risk assessment, in developing alternative testing strategies for nanomaterials, in eco-toxicology and in the development of in vitro 3D models for lung (alveolar) and small intestine.
Within the PHOENIX project, LIST is responsible for the management and the coordination of the project, together with MyB. Furthermore, LIST provides services and expertise for the in vitro safety of nano-drugs.
